AQF17: Research Programmes of Study, Part I: Director of the Doctoral School
Director of the Doctoral School
- The Director of the Doctoral School is responsible for maintaining oversight of research programmes of study.
- The role of the Director of the Doctoral School is:
- To advise supervisors who are new to Northeastern University London (‘the University’), on the requirements of the University’s Academic Quality Framework;
- To advise on the preparation of proposals for new programmes of study and in particular on academic aspects of such proposals;
- To provide advice to the PhD Programme Management Board, University of Kent and Northeastern University London (‘the PhD PMB’) and Northeastern London Board on the adequacy of proposals for new programmes of study;
- To ensure that delivery of research programmes is in accordance with the approved programme specification;
- To ensure that students, supervisors and others, as relevant, receive detailed information about all aspects of the programme(s) (see Part D: Information to Students);
- To report on these matters to the PhD PMB;
- To prepare an Annual Report on the programme(s) for consideration by the PhD PMB, Northeastern University London Academic Board and the University of Kent Graduate and Researcher College Board (see AQF17, Part E: Annual Monitoring and Reporting);
- To coordinate subject-specific postgraduate research training in the Doctoral School (DS);
- To be responsible for ensuring that there is appropriate liaison between staff and teams in the recruitment and admission of students;
- To oversee and ensure that the supervision and progression monitoring of students is taking place in accordance with AQF17, Part H: Supervision and AQF17, Part J: Progression and Examination;
- To ensure, in conjunction with the subject-level nominees, that no supervisor is overloaded with supervisory responsibilities;
- To nominate a panel of faculty (the Panel) to participate in Student Progress Reviews on behalf of the DS;
- To ensure that all students are examined in accordance with the Academic Quality Framework Chapter 17.
PhD Programme Management Board, University of Kent and Northeastern University London
- The PhD PMB is responsible for postgraduate research programmes and the student experience. The responsibilities and Terms of Reference of this Board in relation to postgraduate research programmes can be found here.
- As far as is practicable, the student representation on the PhD PMB should reflect the range of subject areas offered.
