Travel and Parking Policy

Introduction

1. The local area is well connected to public transport links, including bus, tube, overground train, and ferry. Members of Northeastern University London (the University) are encouraged to walk or cycle, where possible.

Purpose and Scope

2. This document provides an overview of travel, parking and accessibility information for the campus locations of the University. This document applies to staff, students and visitors.

Onsite Parking

3. St Katharine Docks and 1 Portsoken have no onsite parking (including disabled) available for any cars, vans, motorcycles or any other motor/electric vehicle type. 
4. The only exception to this is vehicles for delivery or collection purposes, which may gain access to the loading bay yard situated off St. Katharine’s Way, or the loading bay on Portsoken Street. 

Car Access

5. Car access to campus is via St Katherine’s Way, beyond the black loading bay gate at the entrance to Devon House, or the loading bay entrance on Portsoken Street. Car access to both Devon House and Portsoken Street are drop-off only.

Bike Parking Space

6. Devon House has over 100 bike parking spaces available to the east side of the building, accessible via the rear gate, which is locked and only accessible with a security pass. All visitors who require bike storage should liaise with the University for the provision prior to attendance.
7. The bike storage is provided by the Landlord and is available to all tenants of the building; it forms part of the Landlord’s Common Areas and Local Residents’ Demises.
8. Portsoken has 302 internal bike parking spaces available for all tenants, this is accessible via a door between the main entrance and the loading bay. Access is via a fob provided by the landlord. Anyone wishing to use the bike store should contact Facilities to obtain a fob.
9. A Cycle to Work scheme is in place for University staff. Details of the scheme are available from Human Resources.
10. Portsoken provide 32 showers and 1 wheelchair accessible shower located near the bike store, available for use by all tenants.

Santander/Lime Cycles

11. There are various cycle hire schemes in place across most of Tower Hamlets and the City of London. More information, including hire costs and locations, is available at Santander Cycles and Lime Micromobility.

Public Transport

12. Tower Hamlets is well connected by tube, bus and train links across the borough to the City and the West End. It is also served by the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) and is home to City Airport.

Congestion Charge / ULEZ

14. Devon House and Portsoken are located just on the edge of the Congestion charge zone and are within the Ultra-low emission zone (ULEZ). The University is not liable for charges incurred as a result of members of the University or any person who has business with the University, travelling to and from our campus.

Electric Vehicle Charging Points

15. The University does not operate or own electric vehicle charging points at St Katharine Docks. However, Tower Hamlets have committed to install 182 electric car charging points across the borough. More information can be found here.
