Course Overview
This course will examine leadership and team dynamics in contemporary organisations for a data-driven economy under the influence of emerging technologies. Case studies and current research will be used to explore the significance of human factors in leadership, leadership skills, leadership versus management, strategic leadership, cultural perspectives and leadership theories. There is a particular focus on sustainability in terms of societal, economic, and environmental impact. Students will undertake reflective practice to develop their own leadership and management style and evaluate their professional values. Students will develop a critical appreciation of the management activities and leadership skills that are required to build dynamic, high-performing teams.
Course Aims
- To develop the critical understanding of the role of leadership in contemporary organisations.
- To develop the ability to identify, explain and assess the impacts of emerging technologies on organisations.
- To develop a critical appreciation of the management activities and leadership skills that are required to enable digital transformation.
- To develop the knowledge of leadership theories and their implications.
- To learn to apply different leadership theories to build effective teams.
- To reflect on the personal leadership qualities that are required in modern business

Lectures/Labs: Typically one lecture and one lab session per week:
- Version 1: All sessions in the same sized group, or
- Version 2: most of the sessions in larger groups; some of the sessions in smaller groups
Faculty hold regular ‘office hours’, which are opportunities for students to drop in or sign up to explore ideas, raise questions, or seek targeted guidance or feedback, individually or in small groups.
Students are to attend and participate in all the scheduled teaching and learning activities for this course and to manage their directed learning and independent study.

Both formative and summative assessment are used as part of this course, with formative opportunities typically embedded within interactive teaching activities delivered via the VLE.
