MA Contemporary Creative Writing

The Master of Arts in Contemporary Creative Writing at Northeastern University London equips students with the knowledge, craft skills and discipline needed to be a creative writer now.

Programme Structure

The full-time programme takes one year, spread over three semesters. As a full-time student, you’ll take 180 credits across the year:

Full-time September starters: Autumn, Spring and Summer

Full-time January starters: Spring, Summer and Autumn

The part-time programme takes two years, spread over six semesters. As a part-time student, you’ll take 90 credits per year, for a total of 180 credits:

Part-time September starters:  Autumn, Spring and Summer x 2

Part-time January starters: Spring, Summer and Autumn x 2

Taught Courses (30 credits)

You will take two Required Courses during your MA. These are:

As a full-time student, you’ll take two 30-credit courses per semester, while as a part-time student you’ll take one 30-credit course per semester.

Required and Masterclass courses may be taken in any order during your MA. Your exact pathway will be determined by the University in line with lecturer and course availability.

Dissertation (60 credits)

Your MA culminates with an extended creative project, supervised by a lecturer with expertise in your chosen form.

Dissertation: Publication Portfolio (60 credits)

As a full-time student, you’ll take the Dissertation over one semester, while as a part-time student you’ll take it over two semesters.

Summer Writing Series

You will also have the option to participate in our annual Summer Writing Series, an optional enrichment course designed to complement your MA by giving you the opportunity to come to campus and participate in a series of specially curated writing events:

Summer Writing Series (non-credited)

Participation in the Summer Writing Series is a non-compulsory and non-credit bearing option for students. You do not need to take this course to complete your MA, and it comes at an additional charge.
