About Dr Tom Williams
Dr Tom Williams is an Assistant Professor in Philosophy at Northeastern University London. Before this, he studied philosophy at UCL. He was awarded his PhD in 2022. He also completed a BA and an MPhilStud in philosophy at UCL.
Dr Tom Williams's Research
Tom’s research is mostly in philosophy of mind, philosophy of language and philosophical logic. His doctoral research was on acquaintance and singular thought. This was supported by an Arts and Humanities Research Council doctoral award.
Tom is currently working on some papers related to semantic relationism, identity judgement, descriptive names, empty thought and singular propositions. He is part of NU London’s AI and Information Ethics research cluster and has worked as a research assistant for Northeastern University’s Internet Democracy Initiative, helping to organise their 2024 conference.
Dr Tom Williams's Teaching
Tom specialises in teaching philosophy of mind, philosophy of language and logic. More recently, he’s also been teaching on topics related to technology, the internet and AI. Previously Tom taught in the philosophy department at UCL.
He led seminars and tutorials on philosophy of mind, philosophy of language, logic, epistemology, metaphysics and philosophy of maths. He was module leader and lecturer for a logic course at UCL in 2021. He has also taught in the linguistics department at UCL and in the philosophy department at Birkbeck.
