About Dr Laura Acosta-Ortega

Dr Acosta-Ortega is Assistant Professor in Spanish at Northeastern University London. Her teaching focuses on using the language in communicative situations to encourage the students to express themselves in the target language. She holds a BA in Translation and Interpreting (Universitat Pompeu Fabra) and an MA in Teaching Spanish as a Second Language (Universitat de Barcelona) before completing her PhD in Translation and Language Sciences (Universitat Pompeu Fabra).

Dr Laura Acosta-Ortega's Research

Her research focuses on Interactional Competence and Discourse markers in oral interaction in the teaching of Spanish as a second language. Based on her findings, she has developed recommendations on how teachers can develop spoken interaction in the classroom.

Currently, she is a member of the research project Inter-ECODAL, which focuses on the inclusion of intercultural competence and the use of digital tools to improve assessment and feedback practices. Laura is a regular participant at academic conferences and a member of ELE-UK, ASELE and ITAP.

Dr Laura Acosta-Ortega's Teaching

Dr Acosta-Ortega has taught widely in Spanish language, including special subjects on oral skills, writing skills, grammar and translation both in the UK and in Spain. At Northeastern University London she teaches “Introduction to the Spanish Language and Hispanic Cultures” and “Introduction to Intermediate Spanish Language and Hispanic Cultures”.
