Biography
Andreia Sofia Teixeira is an Associate Professor at the Network Science Institute at Northeastern University London. She holds a PhD in Information Systems and Computer Engineering from the Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) at the University of Lisbon, where she developed a strong foundation in computational models and complex systems. Sofia’s research lies at the intersection of Network Science and Machine Learning, where she focuses on creating novel measures, computational models, and simulation frameworks to deepen the understanding of complex system structures and dynamics. Her work spans multiple domains, including computational social sciences, computational epidemiology, network neuroscience, health, cryptoeconomics, and evolutionary game theory, among others. She is interested in addressing real-world challenges by investigating the intrinsic and intricate underlying mechanisms of heterogeneous behaviours, with particular emphasis on human behaviour and mental health. Her recent contributions include studies on suicide ideation, fine-scale brain connectivity analysis, clinical patterns in individuals with multimorbidity, HIV prevention strategies, and the dynamics of social polarization. Additionally, Sofia is an active member of the scientific community, serving on the Executive Committee of the Network Science Society, on the Council of the Complex Systems Society, and as General Secretary in the Women in Network Science Society.
