Specific Learning Differences advising (SpLD)

At Northeastern University London, we are dedicated to providing comprehensive support to students with Specific Learning Differences (SpLD) and neurodiverse conditions, including:

  • dyslexia
  • dyspraxia (DCD – developmental coordination disorder)
  • ADHD/ADD
  • autism
  • other neurodiverse and co-occuring conditions 

Our services are also open to those who are in the process of exploring a possible SpLD or neurodiverse condition, offering a safe space to discuss this further with our Student Support and Development department

Our tailored study skills and mentoring services are designed to help you develop effective learning strategies and the confidence to succeed independently, both academically and personally. 

One-to-one study skills tutorials

Our one-to-one sessions offer personalised support to meet your unique needs. Here’s what you can expect:

  • personalised learning strategies: develop effective study techniques that align with your preferred learning methods
  • organisation: get help organising your study materials, notes and schedule
  • reading and note-taking: enhance your reading comprehension and note-taking skills
  • writing support: receive guidance on essay structure, grammar and proofreading strategies
  • exam preparation: develop strategies for effective revision and exam performance
  • develop your own study ‘tool-kit’: explore a range of assistive technology and other resources that can aid your studies

Mentoring Support

Our mentoring support approach focusses on providing ongoing guidance and encouragement through various activities: 

  • university transition: receive guidance on managing the transition to university life and understanding university processes and systems
  • goal setting: set realistic academic and personal goals and track your progress
  • time management: learn how to prioritise tasks and manage your time efficiently to balance study, work and personal life
  • procrastination: identify the root causes of procrastination and develop personalised strategies to turn procrastination to action
  • study environment: optimise your study environment to enhance focus and productivity, creating a space that supports your learning preferences

Drop-in appointments

For quick questions and information, our drop-in sessions provide flexible and accessible assistance:

  • quick queries: receive guidance around any immediate study-related questions
  • brief consultations: discuss specific challenges you are facing and receive advice or signposting to relevant support services in the University
  • resource guidance: find out about useful resources and tools available to you

How to access support

  • Student Support and Development referral: you can discuss a referral for SpLD advisor support with the Student Support and Development team (studentsupport@nulondon.ac.uk) as part of your general support and reasonable adjustments at university. 
  • book an appointment. You can schedule a 1:1 session through our online booking system using the following link: academicsupport.nulondon.ac.uk select ‘Appointments’, then ‘Specific Learning Differences Advisor’ 
  • drop-in hours: check our website for drop-in hours and simply come by during those times. (details to be confirmed)
