Northeastern University London has a responsibility to its students and to external bodies, including United Kingdom Visas & Immigration (UKVI), to ensure that students are complying with both the relevant regulatory and the university’s requirements.
International students on a student visa are expected to attend all scheduled classes and study points, and be actively and consistently following their programme of study, as required by the university.
The university monitors student academic engagement regularly and identifies any students who have not reached 70% academic engagement of study contacts points in two consecutive weeks without approval, or have a demonstrable pattern of non-academic engagement causing concern. Students falling into any of these categories will be regarded as having unsatisfactory engagement.
The university follows a structured process to address instances of low academic engagement:
STAGE | WHEN | ACTION TAKEN |
1 | 2 weeks of low attendance | Warning email sent to student |
2 | 4 weeks of low attendance | Student invited to an academic engagement hearing |
3 | 6 weeks of low attendance | Student invited to an academic engagement hearing |
4 | 8 weeks of low attendance | Sponsorship of student’s visa withdrawn and student must leave UK |
Detailed information on the academic engagement monitoring policy and process can be accessed here.
Leave of Absence
If you require authorised leave for longer than 60 days, you will need to speak to a member of the Visa Team (visa@nulondon.ac.uk) as this will have major implications for your Student Visa. You must speak to the Visa Team before you leave the UK.
